NORMANDY TRIP 12-16 October
Please find below details of the PGL French trip to Normandy. We will be leaving the school car park at 12.30am on Monday 12 October. You should aim to be at school by midnight to order to ensure a prompt departure. We will be returning at 6.30am on Saturday 17 October, unless there are unforeseen problems in which case we will stop at a service station, where your child will telephone with a revised time. Our emergency numbers will be Mrs Hitchcock at school or on 07921 194117 out of school hours.
We will arrive at the Chateau du Tertre (via Eurotunnel) after lunch and students will need to bring a packed lunch for that day (Monday). All meals thereafter will be provided up to and including Friday breakfast.
On the coaches eating, or drinking of fizzy drinks, will not be allowed and there is a total ban on chewing gum. As the journey will be long, please ensure that students have something with which to occupy themselves (books, magazines, personal stereos etc). Mobile phones are allowed, but you will need to remember that call charges will be considerably higher than in the UK and a travel adaptor will be required to power phone chargers and other electrical appliances.
In France, we will visit a market, a cider museum, local towns and villages and Disneyland Paris. During the journeys to and from Folkestone and Dover an amount of English money will be required to buy refreshments at services en route. All entrance fees for the arranged visits have been included in the cost of the visit, but students will need to buy a snack meal at Disneyland. There is also a tuck-shop and bar in the Chateau for drinks, snacks and presents. We feel that £50 (55€) is sufficient and Thomas Cook in Lincoln will not charge commission as long as you say the money is for a school trip.
It is very important that all medication, including paracetamol and travel sickness pills, is handed in to the First Aider (Miss Bourke) at the beginning of the journey. Inhalers and epipens may be kept by the pupils. On admission to the school each parent signed a form giving consent (or not) to any emergency medical treatment deemed necessary, including general anaesthetic. If this information has changed please inform me immediately. Also please inform me of any dietary requirements or allergies.
Finally it is expected that all students conduct themselves sensibly and that they follow staff instructions. They will be representing both yourselves and the school. Although we do not expect them to wear uniform, please ensure they bring a suitable choice of clothing and comfortable footwear as we may do a fair amount of walking. In order to cover all eventualities sun-cream and waterproofs are advisable.
